National Day didn’t mean much to me when I was younger. To me, it was just a day every country has, a day to remind people that they belong to this red dot on the world map, a day to remind people of our multi-racial identity, nothing more. It was, in fact just like any public holiday just that it lasts for 2 days. For the first day, we’d be out of school by 10am. For the past 4 years, school celebrations were just tradition and they got more and more boring. I’d remember rushing to LAN centres with my class for Counter-Strike and DotA after squirming in our seats for a few hours in that stuffy hall. For the second day, I’d just be rotting at home and catching a glimpse of the celebrations in the evening.
This year, things are different. There were memories to keep, experiences to treasure. As part of the choir, I took part in performing for the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC National Day Observance Ceremony and also for the internal school celebrations. During that period, we spent many fun hours learning 2 dances and revisited many national day songs for the performances. The times spent together were magical. Really must thank our president Kai Xuan, vice-president Kimberly, Sarah and Yvonne for creating those simple yet wonderful dances. It’s been a long time since orientation that I got to learn new dance-steps, Thank You. (;
Finally, our class CIP was carried out on Saturday (12/8). It was loads of fun, at least for the morning session!~ =P We sat down together, squeezing hair gel into these tiny and cute glass bottles, followed by inserting glitter, decorations and macaroni alphabets to form words such as Love, Dream, Hope, Happy, etc. Of course, there would always be VSA on the other side of the bottle which stands for Very Special Arts, the society we are raising funds for. All that sounds quite fun already, but the most enjoyable part for me was that we could make those bottles for our friends!~ Many of us inserted our friend’s names into the bottles and paid a small sum of $1 to take them home haha… Cover costs for the organising group. As for the session after lunch, we headed down to Orchard Road to do road sales with our bottles and tin cans. It was hard, simply because there were so many other groups, mainly from RJC, and the mentality of the people on the streets were, “Get away from me!~”. Haha… It’s really not easy when you get rejected again and again. But it was hell of an experience!~ (:
What made my day, or rather my evening, were fireworks!~ After a busy day of trying to fill up the bottomless tin cans, we were all tired. I didn’t want to go home. Everyone was heading somewhere for some fun on the streets of Orchard Road and I just didn’t wanna go home lol… Rimmel then said that I’d have to entertain her for an hour before she goes to meet her canoe friends for fireworks. Then, I asked if I could tag along and off we went! Was introduced to her canoe friend Yihang. She’s one sweet and friendly girl. Got to talk to her just like old friends almost immediately lOl. Rather surprised I can get to talk to people like that. I suppose that’s what you get when two friendly people meet!~
Rimmel was sooO happy she got to eat new zealand's natural...
A shot taken in the midst of thousands walking home from a night of heavenly fireworks...
As the Hwa Chong girls canoe team only consisted of 6 girls, Rimmel was like, “Bing, you’re going out with 1/3 of the team!~ CoOl rite?~”. Then I was like, “TotalLY! I already know 2/3 of the team!~”. This is the order I got to know 2/3 of the team: Sophia (met her when I was trying to get into A.E.P.), Rimmel (joined us after first 3 months), Yanhan and then Yihang (got to know both through Rimmel). The fireworks were fantabulastic!~ Never got to see them live… Just love those which end up in showers, they look heavenly haha… Rimmel, thanks for letting me tag along for that wonderful evening. Yihang, so glad I got to know you! Thanks for doubling the fun!~ =D
